Web Browsing: Wii Versus PlayStation 3

PlayStation 3While the Wii and PS3 are direct competitors in the video game market, they're very different beasts. The PS3 is big, dark, and high-powered, while the Wii is small, white, and relies on innovation more than horsepower to deliver its goods. But they both play games and they both can surf the Web through integrated browsers, so the folks over at Shiny Media put each browser to the test. To see which one offers the more comprehensive browsing experience, each was tasked -- by Shiny sites WiiWii and PSPSPS -- with viewing 15 of the most popular sites on the Web.

First up was the Nintendo Wii, which scored above average in the review, handling many basic browsing tasks smoothly. It lost points when it came to uploading pictures and videos or viewing anything in the most recent version of Adobe's Flash, the software that drives much of the animated content you see on Web pages.

The PS3 scored similarly, outpacing the Wii when it came to uploading content, but getting knocked for its clunky text inputs (alleviated if you use a USB keyboard) and somewhat sluggish speed. Like the Wii, it also lacked up-to-date Flash support.

While neither unit is the perfect browsing device, both fit the bill for a quick check of your favorite site between gaming sessions.
