Not-So-Earth-Friendly Tech (7)
As much as we love their mammoth sizes and stunning displays, plasmas are energy hogs. The typical 42-inch plasma screen uses 250 watts of juice, while an LCD of the same size uses only 150 watts. The reason for the difference has to do with how the two technologies display their pictures. LCDs employ a backlight, and display colors by blocking certain pixels from being displayed at a certain moment. This result is a fairly steady level of juice being used while you watch your latest Netflix arrival. In plasmas, on the other hand, each pixel is its own lighting element, and must therefore be turned on when the on-screen action requires it, suckling much more power out of your outlets as a result.More Earth-Related Links:

The answer to your question, "J", is yes. Sorry.
But you are perfectly molded into what the big corporations of our world want you to be.
Our President doesn't run our world. I used to say the Big Corporations did...
But folks, it is WE who run them. If we consumers demand greener products, you can guarantee they will be flooding the store shelves. The technology would improve, we would never feel any pain and neither would our planet.
But as long as WE don't care "HOW" they do it or make it, neither will they.
It's all about the powerful buck. And OUR choices.

If all you "greenfreaks" want pollution from gasoline automobiles reduced and want to try an end around on the "gas moguls" then I suggest you pool your money and invest entirely in making alternative energy vehicles an affordable reality. It's all about the economics, stupid!

Maybe everyone should see the movie On Deadly Ground. The goverment needs to be overhauled. They make too much money on the things that hurt the planet. Why would they stop? Tech is so wonderful and has done so many wonders. Surely if allowed, it could help start to fix our state of affairs.

We all know what this is about. We (the U.S.) uses 25% of the world's natural resources because we think we are somehow entitled to them. 20 minute showers, leaving lights on, multiple cell phones and tv's, disposable products...all in the name of convenience. We have become big fat piggies...

Its supply and demand, if people want it, someone will build it. It dosent matter how much energy it uses or how much gas it guzzles, Or what it is made of. The consumer wants new shiny toys and the manufacturers are more than happy to provide,no one needs a gas guzzler suv, or needs a 50 inch plasma, or has to have a 5 cell phones , We want the stuff. but then act suprised or scream our heads off when someone says "hey thats bad". We knew that when we bought the product. but chose to ignore it. its a little thing called common sense, the vast majority has forgotten how to use it. and that is the biggest threat of all to this planet, and mankind alike. its much to easy to just wag the finger and blame someone else.

Of course if the world were not overpopulated it could easily handle a little technical pollution and conspicuous consumption. Unfortunately we glorify people that have big families and the world is full to overflowing so we all are going to have to make some sort of changes. The big corporations don't care but that's because WE don't care. We could stop buying crap we don't really need just because its the latest thing on the market and tell them we'll buy when they change their ways.
