Not rechargable batteries, but the idea that charging through your computer uses less energy. It costs the same to recharge through either devise. Recharging batteries comes from power plants that burn coat and natural gas. Computers use switching mode power supplies, while a good many devices and chargers will use transformer based power supplies. A switching mode powersupply can be much more effecient.
