Just Tell Me What to Get: Bedroom TV
A reader writes: I just redid my bedroom and I'm aching to get rid of a bulky 20-inch TV that just doesn't look right in the new setup. Since I won't be watching TV all the time, I'm not terribly concerned about picture quality, but I would like to be able to get a wall-mounted HDTV and a somewhat decent picture out of it. I also don't want to spend more than $600. Just tell me what to get!Hey reader: We love crisp HDTV in bed just like anyone, but we also know a good deal when we see one. That's why we're fans of the Syntax-Brillian Olevia 32-inch LCD TV. It's a slim flat-panel LCD HDTV that will mount on your wall and give you access to all of your cable or satellite company's HDTV programming. What's more, it comes in an attractive, low-profile case and looks good in any recently-remodeled bedroom (our significant others don't mind it, so it passes that test).
The Olevia sports all the latest inputs, so you should be future proof for a good while. It has 1 HDMI input (the latest & greatest), a VGA input (for computers), a component input (for older HDTV sources), and a composite input (for things like VCRs and game consoles).
Keep in mind that if you want to wall-mount this TV, you'll spend around another $70-80 for a bracket, although it does come with a table stand. In addition, don't expect the super amazing picture quality that you would find on bigger name brands (extremely accurate colors, contrast, even brightness), but you'll be hard-pressed to find any major problems for basic bedroom viewing. Extra bedroom-friendly features include an alarm clock, sleep timer, and headphone jack. At around $525 (street price) you should be easily under $600 by the time you're installed. Good luck!

have to agree with the people who are sceptical regarding purchasing something on
the internet. I have previously..three years ago.....puchased @ SHOP NBC...A COMPUTER AND PRINTER ALL-IN-ONE...FOR $2,500.00 !!
Had the system up and working right away...
BUT....for whatever reason, the 17" Monitor went on the blink...it started "rolling"??
I immediately went thru the proper channels, to return the 17" Monitor....That was a chore I don't even want to get into that!
Anyway, i went back and forth with the idiots
@SHOP NBC..it took 2 and 1/2 months before receiving the NEW Monitor, oh well!
Next I had a problem with the processor etc.
I had it with this "people", some who even spoke ENGLISH????????
Disgusted, I junked everything, and went out to a local store, and purchased another computer....no hassle, no problem!!!
Why did't I do this in the first place....STUPIDTY"...and I was take in by the sales pitch from the SHOP NBC, SALESPEOPLE..very convincing....and you could never talk to them, you had to call elsewhere for any questions, etc..
SO BEWARE, FOLKS..BUY FROM YOUR LOCAL DISTRIBUTORS, EVEN IF ITS A BIT MORE?
ITS WORTH, NOT HAVING THE AGGRAVATION!!!
AMEN

Don't you people know. My Grandmom always told me, "never put a t.v. in the bedroom, kills the sex life". So save yourself some money and turn up the volume elsewhere!!!!!

Hi all, I bought a 42' Phillips Ambilight Sat before super bowl and 2 weeks ago I turned it on & not even 5 min. I heard a loud lawn mower sounding noise and then static, picture went black but still heard sound. I turned it off waited a few seconds and on again, it did the same thing so I walked up to it to unplug it and saw a huge crack from the inside of the glass straight down the top left. I have called Phillips and they referred me to a tech they use in my area to come and see what's wrong. The 1st guy said not till 4/28 can we come out and the 2nd guy ordered me parts with out even coming out to see what was wrong and saying he knew just by how I described it exactly what was wrong with it. Even thou he never heard of the problem like this before just that the screens break becuae of the heat. It is going to take up to a month just to get the part and god knows when to fix it. I say becareful and dont buy anything from Phillips they dont stand behind their product. I paid $1,500 and now I am stuck with a lemon that is going to be refurbished and probably go out again when the warranty is up.

What gives? In a recent article, you (AOL) rated the Sharp Aquos as the best flat screen out and the best buy. Now I'm reading about a multitude of other brands with great reviews. I'm about to purchase a new 42" - 50" HD TV for my new home and I want the best value which means quality of picture, outlets and longevity.

Online/Tech Support and CSR Olevia 3 Series "No TV Tuner" Disclaimer
Your Olevia 3 Series 27 ", 32", 37", and 42" HDTV- Ready LCD Monitors are designed to display video from any video source that can produce a resolution of up to 1080i. These TV Monitors do not have a tuner built-in. They do have HDMI, Component, S-Video and Composite inputs where you can plug in hardware such as Cable/ Satellite Receivers, DVD Players, VCRs, and Game Consoles. Cable and satellite receivers function as Tuners which change the channel of programs from your Cable or Satellite provider. A VCR can be utilized in the same way because it also has a built in TV Tuner and can also change channels from Basic Cable TV or "over the air" Analog and Digital reception. Additionally, separate Tuner Boxes, sold as Digital HD Tuner Receivers, can be used specifically with the Olevia 3 Series Products.

Did anybody bother clicking on the link to read about this TV. It doesn't even have a tuner so it HAS to be connected to cable or sat.

•Widescreen (16:9) •Built-in HD tuner
•HDMI input
•PC-compatible
$499.99
after $200.00 savings
I did the copy and paste thing on the 27" tv from Circut City. The 32" tv is $799. That is online. I would like to know which city I could get it for $500. Seems from what this add says, the 27" is $699 before taxes and before your $200 mail in rebate. The 32" only has a $100 mail in rebate. Good luck with this tv, think I will stick to Best Buy or even Wal Mart.

Never, EVER buy big ticket items over the net! Net sales are where dealers get rid of their in warrantee returns and repairs. A cyber speed-table as it were. You buy a TV-it doesn't work- you return it to the store and get a new one and go home. Question: What happens to the one you just dropped off? Does the dealer throw it away? You go into an electronics store- all those TVs on display- what happens to them after they have burned for 16 to 24 hors a day 7 days a week for a year or more? He throws those away too, yes? Wrong! He gets an order via internet and off goes the miscreant TV repaired and re-sold but the customer does not know that, and he has just gotten a great price on a refurbished unit.A brand new bright spanking new one goes up on display to draw more sales...and the beat goes on. Yeah, the law is Yada Yada Yada. Right!

pete - I own a 42" sharp aquos wall mounted flat screen. Have owned it for 1 1/2 years with no problems. It is a "best buy" and "value" considering all the models and namebrands out there. Look around I researched all the major and small stores and found mine at a local tv guy over 1500.00 dollars less brand new not refurbished. Benefit is he also does repairs although I haven't needed any.

NOTE: There is an Olevia 32" Model 332H which is an HD-readhy TV, and there is the 532H (5 Series) which is an actual HDTV--this is the one you want to buy, and you can find it for less than $600 on sale at brick-and-mortar stores as well as online--but be sure it's the 532H. I've seen the output, and I've read Consumer Reports, and I'm sold--just saving up my dollars now! I can't wait until I can one in my bedroom!!!
