I'm, like, okay with being a little crazy.
The time, energy, words, weight lost, nails bitten, scabs picked and nights I've struggled thru for this are easy to judge from afar, right?
Things I won't miss about being a freelancer: incorrectly estimating my taxes and owing a ton of cash at the end of the year.
So pissed at @thomashouston right now for not reminding me about James Blake last night.

I am here to tell you that there are only two types of hacker proof computers. The one that is turned off, and the one that is disconnected from everything and locked up safely in your house. That being said and with that understanding you can do your best to connect your computer to wireless networks and still protect yourself, but there is always the chance.
Most computers have the ability to operate their wireless network cards in two modes. One is "infrastructure" mode. This is when you are connecting to a router like in a Starbucks or at your house, etc. And one is called "Ad-Hoc", this is when you connect computer to computer directly WITHOUT a router. Unfortunately Windows comes ready to connect to either, and most people don't know this. This has led to many people in airports connecting OTHER computers that hackers have setup to ask for your credit card info and other personal information. If you go into the properties of you wireless network card, and in Windows XP go to "Advanced" on the Wireless networks tab, you can make sure your computer will only connect to Infrastructure, or Access Point connections, never computer-computer.
Secondly, DISABLE every single service that you do not need to work. For instance the Messenger and Alerter services are no longer used by anyone but can and HAS been used by hackers to get into peoples computers. There are lists on the Windows security sites that are continuously updated with which services to disable.
Thirdly, It is absolutely imperative that you have anti-virus, anti-spyware, and a firewall software installed on your computers, and even more importantly UPDATED. While which software to use is debated hotly, I personally recommend Norton Internet Security suites. It is one of the easiest to install and comes pretty much pre-set as locked down. Almost all of the softwares however publish updates daily and there are surveys that say roughly 20 new viruses are released every single day. So update as often as possible.
And last but not least, use common sense. You would not change your clothes or bathe in public (not most of us at least) and you should not use Internet banking sites in a public place like Starbucks or other public Wi-Fi hotspot. Hackers can grab your info as it flys through the air and it is a great way to have your identity stolen.
Hope this helps!

Encryption has become a part and parcel of our lives and we have accepted the fact that data is going to encrypted and decrypted at various stages. However, there is not a single encryption algorithm followed everywhere. There are a number of algorithms existing, and I feel there is a need to understand how they work. So this text explains a number of popular encryption algorithms and makes you look at them as mathematical formulas.

If you have to ask, then box up your PC and drop it off at the nearest salvation army depot. You're much too stupid to own one.

I have to agree with Steve...I own and run a computer service....I still cannot believe how many forward virus hoaxes and chain letters.
Especially those that say send this on to 10 of your friends...or if you send this to 10 of your friends Microsoft will send x amount of money.
People please! treat every e-mail as a threat to stealing your indentity, a con, that contains a virus...even if from a friend or family member, how do you know what level of protection do they have and if they do have protection, is it current or updated.
Is your protection current or updated? And if you have sensitive information on the computer that accesses the Internet, disconnect it from the Internet and buy another computer for accessing the Internet. Because the cost of another computer is far less expensive than if your computer and sensitive information is compromised. I have had clients who run business and their computers are connected to the Internet with their clients personal and credit card information. Running an old operating systems not supported by Microsoft.
And never sell or give your computer away containing your hard drive. Hard drives are inexpensive, remove yours and smash it with a sledge hammer, pulverize it.
Even visiting some websites can send you a trojan virus. And there are e-mails masking themselves as if from PayPal, a Bank, etc. that look legitimate. No financial institution will send you an e-mail asking you for your pin # and password.
