You Are Your MySpace Page

Do you have friends who spend far too long gazing at themselves in the mirror every morning, even though honestly there's not that much to look at? Well, you may be guilty of the same thing when it comes to your MySpace or Facebook pages, according to a study by Sam Gosling, a University of Texas psychologist. His research shows that someone's page usually does a very good job of advertising his or her traits, but the problem is that people in general have no idea of just what they're selling to the world.

When strangers rated the people whose pages they'd seen, they were generally able to accurately pick out those peoples' personality traits-even though they'd never met them. However, when those page owners rated themselves, they were typically way off the mark. So, be careful what you post up there and ask a friend for feedback, otherwise you could wind up like Tila Tequila, who posted a few rap tunes on her page and suddenly considers herself an artist.
